Pedotransfer functions to estimate proctor test parameters under different tillage systems Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Álvarez,Carina Rosa; Micucci,Federico Guillermo; Bustingorri,Carolina; Taboada,Miguel Angel.
The Proctor test is time-consuming and requires sampling of several kilograms of soil. Proctor test parameters were predicted in Mollisols, Entisols and Vertisols of the Pampean region of Argentina under different management systems. They were estimated from a minimum number of readily available soil properties (soil texture, total organic C) and management (training data set; n = 73). The results were used to generate a soil compaction susceptibility model, which was subsequently validated using a second group of independent data (test data set; n = 24). Soil maximum bulk density was estimated as follows: Maximum bulk density (Mg m-3) = 1.4756 - 0.00599 total organic C (g kg-1) + 0.0000275 sand (g kg-1) + 0.0539 management. Management was equal to 0 for...

USLE/RUSLE K-factors allocated through a linear mixed model for Uruguayan soils Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Beretta-Blanco,Andrés; Carrasco-Letelier,Leonidas.
Soil erosion by rainfall is a process that demands management, both for the prevention of excessive soil erosion and for the protection of the quality of freshwater bodies. Erosion coefficients (K-factors) of the universal soil loss equation (USLE)/revised USLE (RUSLE) model were assigned to 99 mapped Uruguayan soil types at 1:1,000,000 scale. This work developed a linear mixed model (LMM) with 79 soils with assigned K-factors, in which the following variables were considered: soil taxonomy, chemical composition, and parent material. The developed LMM had an R²=0.86, in which the soil taxonomy (p<0.0001), parent material (p=0.0174), clay (p=0.0005) and sand (p=0.017) contents had significant statistical effects. The prediction capacity of this model was...

Growth and physiology of maize under water salinity and nitrogen fertilization in two soils AGRIAMBI
Braz,Régis dos S.; Lacerda,Claudivan F. de; Assis Júnior,Raimundo N. de; Ferreira,Jorge F. da S.; Oliveira,Adriana C. de; Ribeiro,Aureliano de A..
ABSTRACT The nitrogen fertilization, in general, minimizes the effects of salinity on plants, but the mitigating action depends on plant species, cultivar, soil texture and plant age, among other factors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation water salinity and nitrogen fertilization on maize physiology and growth (Zea mays) in soils with different textures. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse in Fortaleza City, CE, Brazil, in PVC soil columns (100 x 20 cm). The design was completely randomized using the factorial 2 x 2 x 4, referring to two soils, an Ultisol and a Quartzipsamment, nitrogen doses of 105 and 210 kg ha-1, under irrigation with saline water of 0.5, 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 dS m-1, with four repetitions. The effect of different soil properties on arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization of peanuts, sorghum and maize Acta Botanica
Carrenho,Rosilaine; Trufem,Sandra Farto Botelho; Bononi,Vera Lúcia Ramos; Silva,Eraldo Schunk.
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are important for plant growth since they increase mineral influx. However, symbiosis efficiency is affected by many environmental factors. This study evaluated the effects of different treatments (+/- phosphorus; +/- liming; +/- organic matter; field, sandy or clayey soil textures) on root colonization (RC) of peanuts, sorghum and maize. The combination of these resulted in seventy-two treatments. The 2×2×2×3×3 factorial experiment was laid out in a randomized design. All data were subjected to variance analysis and the means were compared (Tukey at P<0.05). Three months after seed germination, roots were collected to evaluate the percentage of RC. Results showed that soil texture and liming were the most important...

Satellite Spectral Data on the Quantification of Soil Particle Size from Different Geographic Regions Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Demattê,José Alexandre Melo; Guimarães,Clécia Cristina Barbosa; Fongaro,Caio Troula; Vidoy,Emmily Larissa Felipe; Sayão,Veridiana Maria; Dotto,André Carnieletto; Santos,Natasha Valadares dos.
ABSTRACT: The study of soils, including their physical and chemical properties, is essential for agricultural management. Soil quality must be maintained to ensure sustainable production of food and conservation of natural resources. In this context, soil mapping is important to provide spatial information, which can be performed using remote sensing (RS) techniques. Modeling through use of satellite data is uncertain regarding the amplitude of replicability of the models. The aim of this study was to develop a quantification model for soil texture based on reflectance information from a continuum of bare soils, obtained by overlapping multi-temporal satellite images, and apply this model to an unknown region to evaluate its applicability. Spectral data...

Correcting field determination of elemental contents in soils via portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometry Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Dijair,Thaís Santos Branco; Silva,Fernanda Magno; Teixeira,Anita Fernanda dos Santos; Silva,Sérgio Henrique Godinho; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Curi,Nilton.
ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been useful worldwide for determining soil elemental content under both field and laboratory conditions. However, the field results are influenced by several factors, including soil moisture (M), soil texture (T) and soil organic matter (SOM). Thus, the objective of this work was to create linear mathematical models for conversion of Al2O3, CaO, Fe, K2O, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr contents obtained by pXRF directly in field to those obtained under laboratory conditions, i.e., in air-dried fine earth (ADFE), using M, T and SOM as auxiliary variables, since they influence pXRF results. pXRF analyses in field were performed on 12 soil profiles with different parent materials. From them, 59 samples were...

Potential of Spectroradiometry to Classify Soil Clay Content Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Dotto,André Carnieletto; Dalmolin,Ricardo Simão Diniz; Caten,Alexandre ten; Moura-Bueno,Jean Michel.
ABSTRACT Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) is a fast and cheap alternative for soil clay, but needs further investigation to assess the scope of application. The purpose of the study was to develop a linear regression model to predict clay content from DRS data, to classify the soils into three textural classes, similar to those defined by a regulation of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. The DRS data of 412 soil samples, from the 0.0-0.5 m layer, from different locations in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, were measured at wavelengths of 350 to 2,500 nm in the laboratory. The fitting of the linear regression model developed to predict soil clay content from the DRS data was based on a R2 value of 0.74 and 0.75,...

Performance of a reciprocal shaker in mechanical dispersion of soil samples for particle-size analysis Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Dourado,Thayse Aparecida; Silva,Laura Fernanda Simões da; Marinho,Mara de Andrade.
The dispersion of the samples in soil particle-size analysis is a fundamental step, which is commonly achieved with a combination of chemical agents and mechanical agitation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of a low-speed reciprocal shaker for the mechanical dispersion of soil samples of different textural classes. The particle size of 61 soil samples was analyzed in four replications, using the pipette method to determine the clay fraction and sieving to determine coarse, fine and total sand fractions. The silt content was obtained by difference. To evaluate the performance, the results of the reciprocal shaker (RSh) were compared with data of the same soil samples available in reports of the Proficiency testing for Soil Analysis...

EXACT EQUATIONS FOR SOIL PARTICLE-SIZE ANALYSIS BY GAMMA-RAY ATTENUATION Scientia Agricola
Elias,Elimoel Abraão; Bacchi,Osny Oliveira Santos; Reichardt,Klaus.
Soil particle-size analysis by gamma-ray attenuation was first suggested in 1992 and improved in 1997 by diminishing the measurement time and adapting it for automation. It is here demonstrated that when the mass attenuation coefficient mw and the density Dw are replaced by ms and Ds (where the subscripts w and s stand for water and solution) in the approximate equations used to estimate the concentration of suspended particles, they become exact. The demonstration is based by treating the dispersant and water solution as one single medium, instead of treating them as two media. In this way, six variables are reduced to only three. Physical considerations suggest that the...

Ferreira,Ademir de Oliveira; Sá,João Carlos de Moraes; Harms,Mônica Gabrielle; Miara,Simone; Briedis,Clever; Quadros Netto,Caio; Santos,Josiane Burkner dos; Canalli,Lutécia Beatriz.
The adoption of no-tillage systems (NT) and the maintenance of crop residues on the soil surface result in the long-term increase of carbon (C) in the system, promoting C sequestration and reducing C-CO2 emissions to the atmosphere. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the C sequestration rate and the minimum amount of crop residues required to maintain the dynamic C equilibrium (dC/dt = 0) of two soils (Typic Hapludox) with different textural classes. The experiment was arranged in a 2 x 2 x 2 randomized block factorial design. The following factors were analyzed: (a) two soil types: Typic Hapludox (Oxisol) with medium texture (LVTM) and Oxisol with clay texture (LVTA), (b) two sampling layers (0-5 and 5-20 cm), and (c) two sampling periods (P1 -...

Diagnóstico de atributos físico-hídricos dos solos de textura arenosa em áreas de intensificação agrícola no bioma Cerrado. Infoteca-e

Potassium leaching in different soils as a function of irrigation depths AGRIAMBI
Mendes,Walter da C.; Alves Júnior,José; Cunha,Paulo C. R. da; Silva,Anderson R. da; Evangelista,Adão W. P.; Casaroli,Derblai.
ABSTRACT Potassium (K) can be easily lost by the leaching process. The objective of this study was to quantify K leaching in clayey and sandy soils under increasing irrigation depths. The experiment was conducted in 2014, in a protected environment, after extraction of undisturbed soil columns, with diameter of 144 mm and height of 300 mm. The columns were arranged in a randomized complete block in a factorial design with three replicates, corresponding to eight treatments: two soil types and four water depths, equivalent to 50, 100, 150 and 200% of the amount of water necessary to bring the soil moisture to field capacity. Potassium chloride, with 58% of K2O, was used as K source. Water replacement in the columns was performed every three days, for a...

Ant species distribution along a topographic gradient in a "terra-firme" forest reserve in Central Amazonia PAB
Oliveira,Pollyana Yvonica de; Souza,Jorge Luiz Pereira de; Baccaro,Fabricio Beggiato; Franklin,Elizabeth.
In Amazonia, topographical variations in soil and forest structure within "terra-firme" ecosystems are important factors correlated with terrestrial invertebrates' distribution. The objective of this work was to assess the effects of soil clay content and slope on ant species distribution over a 25 km² grid covering the natural topographic continuum. Using three complementary sampling methods (sardine baits, pitfall traps and litter samples extracted in Winkler sacks), 300 subsamples of each method were taken in 30 plots distributed over a wet tropical forest in the Ducke Reserve (Manaus, AM, Brazil). An amount of 26,814 individuals from 11 subfamilies, 54 genera, 85 species and 152 morphospecies was recorded (Pheidole represented 37% of all...
